The Spartans hosted the Eagles in Evansville Christian this evening. It was setup to be a competitive affair from the jump. Both teams started out ready to go, battling for the ball and trying to get forward. The Spartans were rewarded first with a pass from Kalissa Lavely that Azaria Easley finished home to put the Spartans out front 1-0. The first half continued much the same, tightly contested with both teams holding strong. South Knox took a 1-0 lead into the half. The second half started quick, with the Eagles being awarded a questionable penalty not even a minute into the half. The game was equalized. The momentum shifted a bit with the penalty, and the Eagles scored 2 more within 10 minutes to take a 3-1 lead. The Lady Spartans didn't back down though, and continued to push and fight. They were rewarded with a penalty with 10 minutes left. Kalissa Lavely stepped up and slotted it home nicely to reduce the deficit 3-2. The Spartans continued to push for the last 10 minutes and had a lot of good looks at an equalizer but couldn't find the back of the net. The Lady Spartans played hard and didn't back down from adversity. Overall good team game, with lots of positive to move forward with. Defense played a great game with timely tackles, deflections and clearances that kept the Eagles at bay with limited chances. Keeper Layla Thomas was solid in goal and had 10 saves for the Spartans. South Knox moves to 2-1 (1-0 conference) on the year. Their next match is Saturday morning @10am eastern at Heritage Hills for the Lincoln Cup. Kalissa Lavely 1 goal (PK) & 1 assist Azaria Easley 1 goal
