South Knox wasted little time making themselves comfortable on the road Saturday. And, once they got rolling, there was little Bloomfield could do to slow them down. The Spartans scored three times in the span of nine minutes early in the first half, then kept the pressure coming throughout the afternoon in a dominant 10-1 non-conference victory over the Cardinals. Reece Yoder got South Knox on the board less than five minutes into the game, taking a through ball from Levi Loudermilk and hammering it into the net to make it 1-0. The Spartans doubled the lead when Loudermilk’s shot was saved, but Tucker Mahan slotted home the rebound to put the visitors up 2-0 with 26:12 remaining in the first half. Just 14 seconds later, Mahan returned the favor, threading a through ball to Yoder, who finished to make it 3-0. Bloomfield answered with a penalty kick following a foul in the box with 7:50 left in the half, but South Knox quickly regained its three-goal cushion. The Spartans were awarded a penalty of their own with 6:13 on the clock, and Loudermilk calmly buried the spot kick past the helpless Bloomfield keeper for a 4-1 lead. South Knox continued to pile it on after halftime. With barely two minutes elapsed in the second half, Mahan delivered a low, angled pass into the middle for Loudermilk, who turned the ball into the net to make it 5-1. A Mahan corner found Loudermilk in the 49th minute and his header was directed toward the top corner, but a defender somehow managed to clear the ball off the goal line. The Cardinals couldn’t escape the next set piece, however. With 27:36 remaining, Mahan threaded a ball through to Loudermilk, who crossed it toward the back post where Kane Simmons finished the chance with a beautiful header into the top left corner to put the Spartans up 6-1. Ninety seconds later, Joseph Ellerman found Kain Ellerman with a long ball into the box, and the latter chipped the ball over the Bloomfield keeper for a 7-1 advantage. Simmons tallied his second goal with twenty minutes left, running onto a through ball from Owen Keyes. Xander Reynolds then got into the act, setting up Collin Ellerman for a blast with 15:41 remaining, before finding Simmons for his hat trick at 9:14. That final goal triggered the IHSAA mercy rule and capped the scoring at 10-1. Mac Harmon needed to make just one save in goal as the Spartans controlled the match from start to finish. The win pushes South Knox to 6-1-2 on the season. Coach's comments: “It was a physical game. Bloomfield was not going to just lay down, and our guys did a good job matching that physicality and continuing to play our game. Once again, it was nice to get everybody on the field and let them contribute. We had a lot of guys make plays today, and that’s important as we move into a tough stretch on our schedule. We're starting to find some really nice combinations out there and we'll look to take that into next week and continue improving.” The Spartans return to their home pitch on Tuesday for a Blue Chip encounter with Barr-Reeve, with the game kicking off at 5:30pm.
