Lady Spartans draw with Pike Central Varsity vs Pike Central (1-1) Tie The Lady Spartans traveled to Pike Central this evening for an out-of-conference matchup. The Spartans knew coming in that it would be a tightly contested match, and it was from the opening whistle. Play went back and forth early, but the Spartans struck first in the second minute. Kalissa Lavely laid the ball off to Reagan Harrington, who fired it into the top-left corner to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. The game continued back and forth for the remainder of the first half, with both teams creating a few half-chances but neither able to find the back of the net. The Chargers came out strong in the second half and began to apply pressure. The Spartans weathered the attack and eventually settled the game back down. The Spartan defense continued to hold strong until a Pike Central corner kick resulted in the Chargers finding the equalizer. The game turned up another notch from there, with both teams pushing for the go-ahead goal. The Chargers were awarded a penalty, but the attempt struck the crossbar and stayed out, keeping the game level. The final five minutes were a mad dash as both teams pushed to find a winner, but neither side could break through. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spartans played a great team game from the back line all the way up to the forwards. It was a hard-fought battle from start to finish.
