The South Knox Middle School girls' cross country team turned in another strong performance Tuesday evening, finishing second out of 12 teams at the Barr-Reeve Invitational in hot and humid conditions. The Lady Spartans got the two low sticks they needed at the front, with Macyn Perry finishing third in 12:55.5 and Lee Emma Dellinger racing to fifth place in 13:20.6. The pair put South Knox in a strong position early, while a larger-than-desired gap to the next scoring group ultimately made the difference in the close team race. Haven Evans finished 15th in 13:41.7, followed by Jacie Shepard, 17th in 13:53.4; Addie Blackwell, 20th in 14:00.7; Lydia Emmert, 21st in 14:00.8; and Molly Carnahan, 23rd in 14:08.0. South Knox scored 57 points, just 10 behind first-place Barr-Reeve. The Lady Spartans finished ahead of Jasper, North Knox, Linton-Stockton, Loogootee, Northeast Dubois, Vincennes Rivet, Pike Central, Washington Catholic, Shoals and North Daviess, improving their season record to 55-11. The Lady Spartans will look to tighten that scoring pack when they return to their home course Saturday for the South Knox Invitational.
