The South Knox Spartans didn’t need to force the issue Wednesday night. They simply kept moving the ball, kept finding the open player, and kept the pressure on. That patience paid off. South Knox controlled possession from start to finish and cruised to a 4-0 victory over White River Valley at home, putting together one of its more complete performances of the season. The Spartans broke through in the 12th minute when Kane Simmons sent a ball across to Levi Loudermilk, who hammered a shot off the post and into the net for a 1-0 advantage. South Knox nearly doubled the lead 15 seconds after the restart. Tucker Mahan found Loudermilk, whose shot was tipped over the crossbar by the Wolverines’ keeper. The Spartans continued to dictate play, with Christopher Duke rattling a shot off the crossbar before the home side added another goal in the 26th minute. This time Simmons slipped a pass to Mahan, who rifled a shot into the right side of the net to make it 2-0. South Knox picked up where it left off after halftime. Owen Keyes found Loudermilk in the 46th minute, and Loudermilk calmly finished with his left foot into the bottom-right corner to increase the lead to 3-0. Kain Ellerman nearly added another when his shot clanged off the left post, but the Spartans continued to pepper White River Valley with pressure. The fourth goal came with seven minutes remaining when the Wolverines were called for a handball in the box. Loudermilk stepped up to the plate and converted the spot kick to complete the scoring and tally his second hat trick of the season. While the offense generated plenty of opportunities, South Knox was equally impressive defensively. White River Valley struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities, while the Spartans controlled the tempo and kept possession throughout the night. Mac Harmon finished with four saves between the pipes to record the shutout and the victory gives South Knox a record of 8-3-2 on the year. Coach's comments: “We were really patient tonight, and I loved that. We moved the ball extremely well, had great passing and possession all over the field, and we didn’t give White River Valley much of anything. It was just a really solid team performance. We were moving it from side to side, playing for each other and making them chase. When we play with that kind of patience and possess the ball like we did, it opens things up and makes us really difficult to defend.” The Spartans return home Friday for Senior Night against Wood Memorial. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
