Senior Night Shutout: Spartans Roll to 5-0 Conference Win Varsity vs Wood Memorial Win SENIOR NIGHT • CONFERENCE WIN The Lady Spartans celebrated Senior Night with another conference victory, defeating Wood Memorial 5-0! Possession was the name of the game from the opening whistle, with the Spartans creating chances early and often. Wood Memorial came in with a good game plan, looking to defend and make South Knox work for every opportunity. It took 15 minutes for the Spartans to break through, when Azaria Easley found Kalissa Lavely for the opening goal. The Spartans continued to control possession and create the majority of the chances, but Wood Memorial’s defense kept the game at 1-0 heading into halftime. South Knox came out with another level of energy in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Khloe Minderman found Lavely for her second goal of the night and a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, the Spartans were awarded a penalty, and Lavely calmly slotted it home to complete her hat trick. The Spartans weren’t done yet. In the 55th minute, a free kick from Kadee Jeffris bounced off Reagan Harrington and fell to Easley, who finished it off to make it 4-0. From there, the Spartans began rotating players and positions while continuing to push forward. In the 70th minute, Lavely found the back of the net once again, giving her four goals on the night and capping off the scoring. The Spartans continued to rotate players into different positions throughout the remainder of the match, showcasing the versatility and depth of this team. Several more chances came, but none found the back of the net. Layla Thomas and the Spartan defense stood strong throughout, completing the shutout. Coach’s Notes: “We came into the game coming off a big win earlier in the week, which sometimes leads to a letdown, but we came out and looked like we hadn’t missed a beat. We came out and played possession very well. From our back line to our front line, we were looking for teammates and looking to keep the ball.” The Spartans improve to 8-3-2 (4-0 conference) and will host North Knox on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
