Lady Spartans Share Blue Chip Conference Title Varsity vs Barr-Reeve (1-2) Loss The Lady Spartans traveled to Barr-Reeve this evening for their final regular season match and a battle for the Blue Chip Conference title. The game started tightly contested, with South Knox creating the majority of the early attacks. Barr-Reeve did a good job controlling the ball through the middle, and after a couple missed clearances, the Vikings capitalized on a loose ball and found the back of the net from outside the box to take a 1-0 lead. The Spartans continued to battle, but Barr-Reeve earned a corner and was awarded a penalty for a handball in the box, extending the lead to 2-0 heading into halftime. The Lady Spartans have been battle-tested all season and knew they needed to come out fast in the second half. They did just that, with Kadee Jeffris finding Kalissa Lavely for the goal in the sixth minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. South Knox continued to push throughout the remainder of the half, creating several good opportunities, but couldn’t find the equalizer. South Knox Stats: ⚽ Kalissa Lavely — 1 goal 🅰️ Kadee Jeffris — 1 assist 🧤 Layla Thomas — 7 saves The Lady Spartans finish the regular season 9-4-2 (5-1 conference) and claim a share of the Blue Chip Conference title for the first time since 2012. Coach’s Notes: “We came out a bit flat, missed some clearances and gave them good chances in dangerous spots that led to their opening goal. Overall, we played well as a team and defended well minus a couple key moments. It doesn’t feel like it, but it’s still a great accomplishment to claim a share of a strong conference title. We need to set our sights for the tournament now and get ready for Sectionals.” Now, the focus shifts to the postseason. The Lady Spartans host Sectionals and will take on North Knox next Wednesday, October 7, at 5:00 PM. One more season. One more goal. Let’s get to work.
