Lady Spartans Advance to Sectional Championship The Lady Spartans faced off against North Knox this evening in a rematch from just eight days ago, with a spot in the Sectional Championship on the line. The Spartans came out with energy from the opening whistle. Just 45 seconds into the match, Kadee Jeffris sent a cross into the box that Khloe Minderman put away for the opening goal. After both teams settled into the match, the Spartans continued to control the majority of possession. In the 10th minute, Kalissa Lavely sent a ball into the box that found Minderman, who finished for her second goal of the night and a 2-0 Spartan lead. Five minutes later, Lavely delivered another nice cross, this time finding Jeffris, who headed it into the back of the net to make it 3-0. The Spartans kept the pressure on, and in the 23rd minute Jeffris once again set up Minderman, who completed her hat trick and pushed the lead to 4-0. In the 31st minute, the Spartans were awarded a throw-in, and Reagan Harrington launched a ball into the box that Lavely found and finished to make it 5-0. The Spartans weren’t finished before halftime, as Lavely set up Jeffris for her second goal of the night with five minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Spartans took a 6-0 lead into the break. The Spartans came out of halftime with the same intensity. Just three minutes into the second half, Jeffris set up Lavely for her second goal of the night and the Spartans’ seventh. Less than a minute later, Minderman found Jeffris, who completed her hat trick to make it 8-0. In the 50th minute, Lavely once again found Jeffris, who scored her fourth goal of the night to push the lead to 9-0. With the game firmly in hand, players and positions were rotated, and the score remained 9-0 until the match was called with 20 minutes remaining under the IHSSA mercy rule. A complete team effort from the Lady Spartans, who now advance to the Sectional Championship! The Spartans will face the Pike Central Chargers this Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Spartan Pitch for the Sectional Championship. Coach’s Notes: “We came out ready to play tonight.
