Lady Spartans’ Historic Season Comes to an End The Lady Spartans hosted the WRV Wolverines this evening in a Regional Semifinal matchup. From the opening whistle, the game was tightly contested. The Spartans created several dangerous attacks early, while the Wolverines stayed organized and looked to counter. Although the Spartans controlled much of the possession and created the majority of the chances, the Wolverines opened the scoring on a free kick that bounced around in the box before finding the net. The Spartans didn’t put their heads down. They continued to battle and found the equalizer with 16 minutes remaining in the half. Kalissa Lavely sent in a cross that Khloe Minderman headed home to tie the game. The tie didn’t last long, as the Wolverines earned another free kick just outside the box and converted to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Spartans came out ready to play in the second half. Goalkeeper Layla Thomas and the defense held strong, keeping the Spartans within striking distance. The girls continued to push throughout the half and created several good opportunities to find the equalizer, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. The Lady Spartans’ season came to an end this evening, but it was a historic one. The team captured a share of the Blue Chip Conference title and won a Sectional Championship in the same season for the first time in school history. Coaches’ Notes: “We left it all out there. There was no question about effort, which is all you can ask for. We battled and hung in there until the end. The girls should be proud of the way they handled themselves and hold their heads high after a successful season.” Game Stats * Khloe Minderman: 1 goal * Kalissa Lavely: 1 assist * Layla Thomas: 6 saves Thank you to our seniors, Sydnie Carie, Lena Dent, Cora Edwards, Reagan Harrington, Kalissa Lavely, Lacey McCarty, Layla Thomas, and Zoey Thompson, for everything they have given to this program. We appreciate their contributions and wish them the best in their next chapters.
