Coach Carolyn Pieper Hall of Fame Induction Class 2025

Carolyn Pieper coached girls’ basketball at South Knox from 1975-94, compiling a 208-134 record and .608 win percentage with three sectional titles and seven Blue Chip Conference crowns in 19 seasons. She later was an assistant coach for the Spartans from 1997-2005 and served the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association as its West girls’ coordinator for the annual HBCA All-Star Classic from 1990 to 2016. Pieper’s teams captured sectionals in 1979, 1982 and 1983, and she was named HBCA District 1 Coach of the Year in 1988. A 1971 graduate of North Knox High School, Pieper played basketball for two seasons at Vincennes University and two additional seasons at Indiana State. She averaged 8.6 points for an 8-6 team as a freshman and 9.3 points for a 17-1 as a sophomore at VU for coach Andrea Myers. Pieper won VU awards for mental attitude and as the Trailblazers’ Outstanding Woman Athlete in 1973. At Indiana State, she was a part of Sycamore teams that went 15-5 and 18-6 squads for coach Edith Godleski, serving as a team captain as a senior. Pieper earned an associate’s degree in physical education from VU in 1973. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in 1975 and a master’s degree in 1979, both from Indiana State in health and physical education. She was a student teacher at Vincennes Lincoln in the spring of 1975, then was a teacher at South Knox from 1975 to 2016. She also coached volleyball from 1975-85 and girls’ track from 1976-90.
