The South Knox Spartans traveled to Evansville Christian this evening for a tough non-conference showdown against the Eagles. Coming in, the Spartans knew they’d be tested, facing a striker who had already scored 12 goals in the Eagles’ first two games of the year. With a clear game plan in hand, the Spartans came out sharp. They executed early, keeping the Eagles at bay and striking on a counter attack in the 17th minute. Ava Babrick finished the chance off an assist from Kadee Jeffris to give South Knox the 1–0 lead. The Spartans continued to stick to the plan, creating a few more dangerous looks while holding strong defensively to take the advantage into halftime. The second half started much the same, with the Spartans executing well and limiting opportunities for the Eagles. Midway through the half, a key injury forced South Knox to adjust in the back, and the Eagles capitalized about 10 minutes later to tie the match. With just under 10 minutes to play, Evansville Christian found the go-ahead goal. Despite the setback, the Spartans refused to back down. They pushed forward until the final whistle, creating a few half chances but ultimately falling 2–1. Even in defeat, the Spartans executed the game plan well, holding the Eagles’ high-scoring striker to one goal and showing plenty of positives to build on as the season picks up. South Knox moves to 2–1 on the year (1–0 in Blue Chip Conference) and will be back in action Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at home against conference rival Barr-Reeve.
