South Knox hosted the Pike Central Chargers this evening in a non-conference matchup, knowing it would be a tough test. The game opened with both sides battling for control, neither able to hold much possession early on. Once the Spartans settled in, they began creating chances, and in the 17th minute broke through. A deep-range shot from Cala Charleston was deflected by the keeper, and Ava Babrick was there to finish it off with a header. The Spartans kept pressing, and in the 34th minute a long throw-in from Reagan Harrington bounced around the 18-yard box before Charleston pounced to double the lead. South Knox carried a 2-0 advantage into the half. The Chargers came out flying in the second half, forcing an own goal just 30 seconds in to make it 2-1. Pike Central kept the pressure on, and with 20 minutes left found the equalizer. Both teams created dangerous looks in the closing stretch, but the keepers stood tall and the match ended in a 2-2 draw — the Spartans’ first of the season. It was a strong team effort against a quality opponent, with South Knox showing patience in possession and a willingness to work together. The Spartans move to 6-3-1 on the year (4-1 Blue Chip) and return to action tomorrow night on the road at Sullivan to face the Golden Arrows.
