South Knox traveled to Sullivan for a non-conference clash on Wednesday night and wasted no time setting the tone, cruising to a commanding 7-0 victory. The Spartans nearly struck twice in the opening minutes, as Collin Ellerman saw his effort tipped over the bar and Ross Holscher forced a diving save around the post. The breakthrough came in the 9th minute when Ellerman slipped a perfectly weighted through ball to Levi Loudermilk, who calmly finished to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Loudermilk turned provider, setting up Jakob Graman for his first goal of the season. In the 18th minute, Kain Ellerman whipped in a cross from the left flank that Graman buried for his second score and a 3-0 lead. Graman then completed his hat trick in the 30th minute, courtesy of an assist from Christopher Duke. Just before halftime, Loudermilk struck again, this time slotting home after a pass from Holscher to send South Knox into the break up 5-0. The Spartans kept the pressure on after the restart. Just four minutes into the second half, Collin Ellerman teed up Owen Keyes, who drilled a low drive into the back of the net from the top of the 18. With the bench emptied the rest of the way, Duke connected with Liam Valenzuela in the 75th minute, and the freshman finished neatly for the final goal of the night, ending proceedings at 7-0. Goalkeepers Blake Sutton and Colton Westfall combined for three saves to preserve the clean sheet as South Knox improves to 6-3-2 on the season. Coach's comments: "We set the tempo early and it allowed us to take control of the match. Tonight had a completely different vibe from yesterday’s match - there was a lot more positive energy around the team, and that showed in the way we played. It was great to see Jakob, Owen and Liam score their first goals of the season, and I was proud of how our bench stepped in during the second half and battled to the final whistle." Next up: The Spartans return home Saturday, September 20, for Senior Night and the annual Watermelon Cup showdown against the Lincoln Alices. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Senior introductions will take place right before the Girls' match, which starts at 5:00 pm.
