Last evening, the South Knox Spartans honored their seniors as they hosted county rival Vincennes Lincoln at the Spartan pitch. The crowd turned out in full force, creating the perfect atmosphere for a memorable night of soccer. The Spartans wasted no time getting on the board. Just three minutes in, Kalissa Lavely played a perfectly timed ball over the top that found Ava Babrick, who finished calmly to give South Knox the early 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half was high energy, with both teams trading possession and pushing forward, but both defenses held strong. With five minutes left before the break, another over-the-top ball created danger, leading to a Spartan free kick just outside the box. After setting up the look they wanted, Kadee Jeffris stepped up and fired a well-placed strike toward the back post. The Alice keeper got a hand to it, but it wasn’t enough to keep it out, sending South Knox into halftime up 2-0. The second half was tightly contested, with the Spartans rotating fresh legs and gaining valuable minutes across the roster. Midway through the half, Vincennes Lincoln capitalized on a corner kick, sneaking one past the keeper to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. South Knox continued to press, coming inches away on several chances—including a shot off the crossbar—but couldn’t find a breakthrough until the final minute. That’s when Lavely calmly buried a penalty kick to put the match out of reach, sealing the 3-1 victory and keeping the Spartans unbeaten at home (6-0-1). It was a hard-fought team performance, with the defense holding strong and the midfield driving the energy throughout the match. A special thank you goes out to this year’s seniors—Lorelia Davis, Jurnee McClure, Cala Charleston, Ava Babrick, and Sarah French—for their years of dedication and leadership to the program. With the victory, the Spartans improve to 8-3-1 (4-1 Blue Chip). They’ll be back in action Wednesday at White River Valley, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
