South Knox delivered a composed and dominant performance in a 1-0 win over Barr-Reeve in Wednesday’s Sectional Semifinal, earning sweet revenge for a narrow loss earlier in the season. From the opening whistle, the Spartans controlled the match, dictating possession and creating the majority of scoring chances while allowing little room for the Vikings to respond. Shots from Levi Loudermilk and Collin Ellerman tested the Barr-Reeve keeper early, and the Spartans continued to apply pressure through a steady rhythm of attacks and set pieces, with Ellerman nearly heading in a Ross Holscher corner late in the first half. A golden chance presented itself for South Knox just six minutes after the break when Loudermilk threaded a perfect ball through the Viking backline into the path of Holscher, who sent the his shot narrowly over the bar with just the keeper to beat. The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute after Kaiden Grumieaux slipped a pass into the box to Holscher, whose touch deflected into the path of Loudermilk. The sophomore reacted instinctively, turning and driving the ball into the bottom right corner for the decisive goal. The Spartan defense, anchored by a composed back line, remained impenetrable the rest of the way. Goalkeeper Blake Sutton was steady in goal, finishing with four saves to secure the clean sheet. Coach's comments: "We were very focused and disciplined the entire game. When Barr-Reeve beat us earlier this season, they celebrated like they’d just won Sectionals. I told the boys to take note of that moment and remember it for when we saw them again. Tonight, they showed maturity, patience, and control. I told them to keep the celebrations muted — we’ll save those for Saturday." With the victory, South Knox improves to 12-4-2 on the season and advances to the Sectional Championship, where they will face host Northeast Dubois on Saturday, October 11 at 2:00 pm.
